Gun violence

by Khristian Sterling

Since the memorable school shooting at Columbine High School to America’s most recent school shooting in Parkland Florida; America’s street has been plagued with gun violence because of lax gun laws and or an outdated amendment. There’s no one party to blame in this situation facing our society, but there are many unheard thoughts of solutions for these problems. First, we should look at an amendment; The Second Amendment. The amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Now let’s dissect this: a militia is a force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency, but we haven’t needed one of these militias since the American Revolution which was 235 years ago, and no war has been fought on America’s soil since the Civil War so that’s one reason why this amendment should be checked out. After it states “necessary to the security of a free State” necessary for what all of our states in this day and age aren’t oppressed or being threatened by a powerful nation but even so our government is now powerful to confront this nation if this problem should ever come to pass. Then the remaining of it translates to people are allowed to keep their firearms without trouble or interruptions from the police until it too late; sometimes. Now going off this is one of the reasons why they’re so many guns up for grabs on the street.
